Minnesota Power – Winton Hydro

Lakehead Constructors was to remove and replace two 230 lf, 9ft diameter, 80 year old, wooden penstocks on the MN Power Winton Hydroelectric Dam during a 30 day outage in an environmentally sensitive area. Develop and implement a storm-water runoff plan to capture and control all storm water runoff so as not to impact Fall Lake water quality. Lakehead used a 777 Manitowoc crane to install 22 65,000 lb. pipe sections on a very tight jobsite with no lay-down area. Pipe sections were delivered at a rate of 2 per day from Chicago, lifted from truck and placed directly into the excavation. The entire project was finished in 28 days.
